A Message from one of Sarah’s teammates in Guadamala
From Sarah Payton:
Hey Everyone!! I apologize for taking so long on letting you all know how things are going. I can’t believe it’s already been 2 weeks!! God has already shown Himself to be amazing numerous times.
The ministry that we are associated with is called Esperanza de Vida and was founded by Carlos Vargas. He has an amazing vision to turn his country upside down for Jesus Christ. We like to call him the Jerry Falwell of Guatemala. A few of the things that he has started is an orphanage, a school, a home for the elderly, and a nutrition center for kids. As he was giving us the tour, he pointed out an empty lot of land and said that one day he imagines to have a university there. He is an amazing man of faith who believes that his God has no boundaries.
Getting here felt like it would never end. We had a four hour bus ride to the airport, about another 4 hour plane ride, and then another 4 hour bus ride to Llano Verde. It was totally worth though. The drive here was absolutely breath taking. The mountains are amazing and they show His handywork to it’s fullest. Once we finally got here, we picked rooms and got settled in. There are seven of us in one room and then the other girls are two to a trailor. There are six guys so they are all in one room as well, but there’s is on the breezy side of the building so of course we are jealous.
Our days are usually pretty busy. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we have classes in the morning, our ministry sites and then either door to door, VBS, or a youth outreach. On Tuesday and Thursday we go out into different villages, churches, schools, and/or parks to share the gospel. In the villages we have area evangelism, VBS, a church service and then we hand out food. The park/town center outreach really forces everyone out of their comfort zones. We’ve only done this once so far, but we saw about 4 people come to know the Lord so it was totally worth our being uncomfortable. Each time we go to one of these places, we also have a program that we share with them that includes songs, dramas, testimony’s and then the gospel. On M/W/F, my minstry is the orphanage. The kids there are so adorable and I can’t imagine how anyone wouldn’t want any of them. As soon as you meet them, you can’t help but fall in love with them.
I just want to thank everyone who is praying for me and the team. We really appreciate it and covet every one of them. It can be hard in the villages to see the way of life for these people, especially the kids. My heart aches every time we have to leave the village and the kids are begging us to stay with them. Continue to pray for us as we carry the gospel to the people of Guatemala.
